We consider crown design and placement as a precise craft.

Our talented restorative dentists take a detail-orientated and personalised approach to creating your crown, making sure it looks natural and complementary to your smile.

What is a Crown?

A crown is a cap for a moderately or severely damaged or decayed tooth. We use crowns in conjunction with other treatments including root canal treatment and dental bridges (crowns cap a tooth that supports a dental bridge).

FAQs

When Is a Crown Recommended?

Your dentist may recommend a crown to:

  • Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth structure remaining.
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing.
  • Restoring a fractured tooth.
  • Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth.
  • Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment.
  • Cover a dental implant.

What Are Crowns Made Of?

Here at Tavern Street Dental Practice, we use the most sustainable and high-quality materials wherever possible. The type of material used will in part, depend on which of your teeth requires treatment. Teeth responsible for the majority of your chewing such as molars and premolars may require a stronger material such as gold. Meanwhile, teeth that are more visible when you smile can be restored with a more tooth-like material such as porcelain or Zirconia.
